I have decided to build a sailboat. Weekender sailboat page As you may have already guessed, it will be named Kingsfold, for a fun Irish tune that at least two hymns and one Christmas song have been set to. I shared this with my older sister—a sometime sailboat owner—and she expressed interest in partnering with me in the project. But she wants hard numbers first, for what the finished project will really cost. So I have started a spreadsheet that includes the parts list from the website, additional things I want to build in, items to outfit the boat for cruising, and ongoing costs of operation. There are columns for the basic get-it-done price, and upgrades price. I will subdivide all these items by getting the boat ready for: day sailing, easy cruising, and serious cruising. She said it was, "Way cool!" Pretty cheap process so far! The next cheap step is clearing space in my garage... How soon I start putting actual money into the project is contingent on finances of course. Activity on this blog will probably be sparse for awhile. But I wanted to closely chronicle the entire project from idea stage to cruises. And I hope that the material I post here will assist and entertain readers.
